Cancer Patient Navigation Services
We know that navigating cancer treatment can be complicated. Part of the O’Neal difference is our team of Cancer Nurse Navigators who are with you every step of your journey. The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB offers cancer patient navigation services to all new cancer patients at UAB Medicine. The navigation team works directly with patients and their caregivers to help ensure a personalized and coordinated care experience – from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship.
The team is made up of registered nurses with oncology experience and special training in care navigation. Our oncology nurse navigators along with oncology-trained care guides (patient navigators) actively connect patients with the many support services available at our center and address any issues that may arise during the cancer treatment journey.
Our navigators serve on disease-specific teams to ensure that each patient’s unique needs are identified and addressed and that the details of care are carefully coordinated. Alongside our clinic staff, navigators help answer questions, recommend educational materials, coordinate treatment plans, and resolve any problems.
