O’Neal Iron Strong Awards

The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center presented its inaugural O’Neal Iron Strong Awards on July 28, 2023, in the Barbara and Edward Partridge Atrium at UAB Medicine’s Wallace Tumor Institute. The ceremony celebrated the nine cancer survivors who shared their stories.

O’Neal Industries Chairman and CEO Craft O’Neal spoke about the phrase that became the theme of the event: “Difficultas ne deterrem.” A Latin phrase meaning “difficulties do not deter us,” this concept was shared by his father and grandfather throughout his life. O’Neal said this phrase applied to the relocation of a prized magnolia tree that became a symbol of the O’Neal family, but it also represents the determination of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center’s physician-scientists, who work each and every day to help patients pursue a life without cancer.
