O’Neal NextGen Predoctoral Scholars Award

The O’Neal NextGen Predoctoral Scholars Award exists to enable promising predoctoral students to obtain mentored cancer research training from O’Neal Cancer Center faculty advisors. The proposed mentored research training must reflect the applicant’s dissertation research project and is expected to enhance the individual’s potential to develop into a productive, independent cancer researcher.

The O’Neal NextGen Postdoctoral Scholars Award exists to support promising postdoctoral trainees at UAB during their mentored training under the guidance of UAB faculty sponsors. The integrated program of research and training should enhance the individual’s potential to develop into a productive, independent researcher.
RACE21: Roadmap for America’s Cancer Explorers for the 21st Century

The UAB Center for Community Outreach Development and the UAB O’Neal Cancer Center were recently awarded a National Cancer Institute grant to support the progress of students from high school through UAB’s undergraduate cancer biology programs. The scholarships will support research activities in mentored laboratories by selected students in the program.
Francisco Robert, M.D., Investigator Award
The UAB O’Neal Cancer Center’s Francisco Robert, M.D., Investigator Award provides investigators with the opportunity to carry out cancer interventional treatment trials that will benefit from local expertise and are highly relevant to the center’s catchment area. Trial related activities including regulatory submission, support from the O’Neal Clinical Trials Office (CTO) for clinical trial activation, coordination, and data management must be built into the award budget. The award can only be used for the clinical trial costs at UAB.
To be eligible, one of the applicant P.I.s must have an M.D. and be a faculty member in any clinical department at UAB. Trainee applications must include a letter from their division director or department chair indicating that the trainee will remain at UAB beyond completion of training and/or outlining how another P.I. will complete the trial. Multi-P.I. proposals are encouraged. Applications will be accepted, reviewed, and awarded on a rolling basis. Decisions will be communicated to applicants no more than two months after application. All the sections of the application must be combined into a single document and emailed to Meg Thomas at margaretannthomas@uabmc.edu.
