UAB O’Neal Cancer Center hosts EXCEL Emerging Leader Zhipeng Meng, Ph.D.

The UAB O’Neal Cancer Center hosted Zhipeng Meng, Ph.D., on Friday, Oct 23, 2026, for a seminar titled “Regulation of Tissue Growth and Carcinogenesis by Hippo Signaling and Biomechanics.”
Meng is an assistant professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology and a member of the Tumor Biology Program at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. His presentation explored how Hippo signaling and biomechanical forces regulate tissue growth and carcinogenesis, offering insights into biological processes relevant to cancer development.
Meng visited UAB as a Southeast Exchange of Cancer Research Emerging Leaders (EXCEL) guest speaker. EXCEL is a partnership among the UAB O’Neal Cancer Center, the Moffitt Cancer Center, and the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University that provides career development opportunities for early-career faculty.
Through initiatives such as EXCEL, the O’Neal Cancer Center supports collaboration and professional development among emerging cancer researchers, helping to both advance scientific discovery and to strengthen the cancer research community.
