Get Involved: October Cancer Fundraising Events

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which inspires a variety of educational and fundraising events. From foot races to cookouts—all benefitting cancer research—there’s something for everyone.

September 30Sistah Strut: Walk, run or stroll at Legion Field to raise awareness for breast cancer. Registration is $35 per person in advance and $15 for children under 12.

October 7BCRFA Cahabaque: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama hosts a semi-annual cook-off at Cahaba Brewing Company that features live music, craft beer, and all-you-can-eat barbecue samples from teams of professional and hobbyist grillers. General admission tickets are $15 in advance.

October 12Forge’s Haute Pink: Benefiting Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center, this event features ten breast cancer survivors, and one breast cancer co-survivor, who will walk the runway modeling fashion created by Birmingham fashion designers. Tickets are available online.

October 14Breast Cancer Awareness Network Colors of Cancer 5k: The annual fun run begins at 9 a.m. in Adamsville, AL. Registration online is $35 and ends October 7.

October 17Sheroes Wear Pink: Celebrate breast cancer survivors with a press conference held by the city of Birmingham, with a special appearance from our own Erica Stringer-Reasor, MD. The event will be held on the second floor of Birmingham City Hall from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

October 19Light the Night: Gather in Railroad Park at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate and commemorate blood cancer patients. Proceeds go toward research, advocacy and support for blood cancer treatment.

October 21Pink Power Triple Negative Breast Cancer Tour: The Sisters Network Inc.’s tour aims to bring awareness to triple negative breast cancer. The tour passes through Montgomery and will host an event at the Embassy Suites.

October 22Pink Up the Pace 5K and Fun Run: With a 5K race, a 1-mile fun run for kids, refreshments and field activities, this event has something for the whole family. Registration is $35 for adults and $25 for children under 12.

October 29Homewood Witches Ride: Beginning at 2 p.m., join festive witches on their two-and-a-half-mile bike ride as they throw candy to onlookers and celebrate cancer survivors. Registration to ride a bike in the event is $40.
